THE STRONG MAN

TB JOSHUA REACHING OUT TO THE ROBBERS WITH LOVE OF CHRIST

PROPHET T.B. JOSHUA

THE OUTSIDE OF SCOAN

Sunday, 1 August 2010

MANY MORE ARE COMING........

MANY MORE OF HIS PROPHECIES SHALL BE BROUGHT TO YOU.

PROPHECY CONFIRMED ARE MANY - THE DEATH OF NIGERIAN PRESIDENT UMARU MUSA YARADUA

The book of Amos 3:7 tells us that God does nothing without first revealing it to His servants. Therefore, a true prophet of God is a communicator between the visible and invisible world. Just as The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations is a ministry of all nations, so too, God continues to use Prophet T.B. Joshua as a mouthpiece to the nations. Numerous prophetic words of both national and global concern have been given by T.B. Joshua and confirmed by the events that followed. In this section are some of the recent prophetic messages revealed during the live Sunday services at The SCOAN that have come to fulfillment.

“You have to pray for this country because I saw the flag of Nigeria on top of the wood. What is the meaning? For the past three weeks, I’ve been praying that the Lord should protect this country, mercy - but I saw a flag on top of the wood. What is the meaning of the wood? What is the meaning of the flag? We have to pray for the nation. That’s all.”

During a Sunday live service at The SCOAN, Prophet T.B. Joshua delivered a prophetic message asking the congregation to pray and fast for the nation, Nigeria and for the soul and body of its president. These were his words. “On the 4th, fast and pray. And on Thursday, fast and pray. Pray and fast. God be with us. You will pray with me. I know we have different nations here but you want to pray for the nation, Nigeria. Ask God for mercy and favour. Ask God to speak His mercy and favour to the soul and the body of the President in Nigeria. In Jesus Christ’s name we pray. Amen. Once again, ask God to speak His mercy and favour upon the soul and the body of our President in Nigeria. Prayer. In Jesus Christ’s name we pray.”

In another Sunday service at The SCOAN, Prophet T.B. Joshua prophesied further asking the congregation to pray on the 6th saying that the prophecy concerned the Nigerian community. “I want to say something – on the 6th, pray. On the 6th, pray. You will see it--- Something has happened somewhere. I will just keep quiet. That 6th is for your community.”

Prophesying in another Sunday Service at The SCOAN, Prophet T.B. Joshua gave a call to pray for the nation of Nigeria, specifically mentioning the days, Wednesday and Thursday. This is what he said: " Pray for this nation. Father, Your decision is Paramount and Your decision is supreme. Let Your name be glorified. Amen. Pray on Wednesday/Thursday. The event that will happen, there is nothing we can do but we want to pray and say to the Lord, Lord, you have the key to loose and to bind. The Choice is Yours. We ask for the inner grace to choose as if You are the One choosing. Father Lord, we pray. We pray for the nation."

In another service, Prophet T.B. Joshua prophesied a fourth time about the nation Nigeria saying that he saw the Nigerian flag on top of the wood.

True to the prophecy, on the morning of Thursday the 6th of May, 2010, the nation of Nigeria woke up to the news that their president, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua had died the previous night of Wednesday 5th May, 2010 and that his funeral was to take place in his home State of Katsina on Thursday the 6th. The world watched as the corpse of the late President was carried through the streets of Katsina, suspended on wooden shafts, covered with the Nigerian flag.

The Federal Executive Council headed by the newly sworn in President Goodluck Jonathan in a meeting during the early hours of Thursday 6th May 2010, announced 7 days of mourning, when the national flag was to be flown at half mast and declared Thursday 6th May as a Public Holiday in Nigeria in honour of the late President.

Take note of Prophet T.B. Joshua’s words to pray and fast on the 4th and on Thursday - the days preceding and following the death of Nigeria’s President Yar’Adua. The 4th, being a Tuesday was the day before President Yar’Ardua’s death and Thursday the 6th was the day after his death – the very day of the Nigerian President’s burial. The man of God specifically gave a call to pray for the nation and the leader the prophecy concerned – the nation Nigeria and its President.

Recall the exact days that the prophet mentioned in the prophecy that the event would happen, Wednesday/ Thursday. The Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua died on Wednesday 5th May 2010, after a long battle with a kidney ailment. Recently, he suffered pericarditis, an inflammation of the lining around the heart which had kept him out of the public eye since November 2009. He died at the age of 58.

Recall the prophet’s words concerning the date of the 6th. “I want to say something – on the 6th, pray. On the 6th, pray. You will see it--- Something has happened somewhere. I will just keep quiet. That 6th is for your community.”

In confirmation of the prophet’s words, on May 6th 2010, something had truly happened somewhere in the Nigerian community. The Nigerian President had died the previous night. On the 6th, President Yar’Adua was buried in His home State of Katsina and acting President Goodluck Jonathan was sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The 6th was also the date that a public holiday was declared in honour of the President’s passing away. The events that happened on 6th May 2010 truly impacted on the entire community of Nigeria.

The image carried by national media on Thursday 6th of the funeral procession clearly confirms the vision God had revealed to Prophet T.B. Joshua about the flag of Nigeria on top of the wood. The corpse of the late President covered with the Nigerian flag and laid on wooden shafts, being carried through the streets to the funeral service clearly confirms the prophet’s words. The wood that the prophet had seen in the vision God had given him were the wooden shafts which conveyed the corpse of the late Nigerian President in the traditional funeral procession. The flag of Nigeria on top of the wood that was revealed to the man of God signifies the death of a very prominent person in that nation.

Born in 1951 into one of Nigeria's best-known political families in northern Nigeria, Yar'Adua earlier worked as a Chemistry professor at a university in his home state of Katsina. He became Katsina's governor and later emerged as the consensus pick among the ruling Peoples' Democratic Party, run by then-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In a statement, the new President Goodluck Jonathan expressed shock at the death of his predecessor, saying, “Nigeria has lost the jewel on its crown and even the Heavens mourned with our nation. As individuals and as a nation, we prayed for the recovery of Mr President. But we take solace in the fact that the Almighty is the Giver and taker of all life.”

The United States’ President, Obama expressed sadness at the death of Yar’Adua praising him as a man with a passionate belief in his nation’s future. “We remember Yar’Adua’s profound personal decency and integrity, his deep commitment to public service and his passionate belief in the vast potential and bright future of Nigeria’s 150 million people”, In his statement Obama said, "President Yar'Adua worked to promote peace and stability in Africa through his support of Nigerian peace-keeping efforts as well as his strong criticism of undemocratic actions in the region. He was committed to creating lasting peace and prosperity within Nigeria's own borders, and continuing that work will be an important part of honouring his legacy”.

We at Emmanuel TV and The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations, pray for the nation Nigeria, her citizens and the family of his Excellency, the late Umaru Yar’Adua that God in His infinite mercy would be their solace and security in the face of this crushing national loss and for Nigeria’s government and leader that God would strengthen them for the task ahead.

WHAT IS CHURCH?

The Bible tells us that the Church is a House where God lives - through His Word, by His Spirit. “…built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone. In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit” (Ephesians 2:20-22). It is a place of salvation, healing, deliverance, protection and all of God’s blessings.

Many people attend church every week but how many of them are there to see Jesus? Many come to church to negotiate business. Some come to church in search of marriage partners. Some come to church to meet friends and relations that they have been eager to see for a long time. Different things bring people to church. How many actually come to church to see Jesus? People today move around churches instead of moving around Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church.

The essence of the true church is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). Therefore, our attendance at our local church is merely symbolic. What counts is Christ in you – the hope of glory. Are you born again? Are you a believer in Christ Jesus? If you come to church, you must show your faith as someone who wants to see Jesus. “For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people" (2 Corinthians 6:16). The church is made up of those who are truly born again – followers of our Lord Jesus Christ. You must be reborn by a spiritual miracle to become a member of the true Church of Jesus Christ. To be born again, the believer must first die with Christ and then resurrect with Him. When we resurrect in Him, we live in Him and have our being in Him (Acts 17:28). Unless we die with Christ, we cannot put on the new life in Christ Jesus.

The mission of the Church is to preach the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to all mankind (Mark 16:15-18). Good News is the message of righteousness. When you hear this message, it will cause your faith to rise up in your heart. In the message of righteousness, there is no judgment or condemnation (Romans 8:1). What a rare privilege to tell the sweet story of our Lord Jesus Christ and His love – to speak of His power to forgive, His power to save, His power to deliver and His power to heal!

SCOAN VISION

The vision of the Church is to see that the relationship and fellowship between God and man is restored. Christ’s mission is our mission: “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost” (Luke 19:10).
Christ’s mission is to preach the message of salvation to all people of all nations, as it says in Mark 16:15, “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved…” Anyone can believe: whether educated or uneducated, rich or poor, Jew or Gentile. Anyone can believe. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28).
The essence of the true Church is Christ in you, the hope of Glory (2 Corinthians 6:16; Colossians 1:27). Jesus loves us and cherishes our company. It is possible for you to have a close relationship and friendship with God Almighty.
“For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I Myself will search for My sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after My sheep.
I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land” (Ezekiel 34:11-12).

STATEMENT OF FAITH OF SCOAN

We believe that the Holy Spirit worked with the Father and the Son to create the world. The Father gave His Spirit to make us like His Son, Jesus Christ. The Jesus Christ we know is Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit. He made a wonderful promise in John 14:16-17: "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever -- the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you."
The Holy Spirit is to be with us forever. He is not known or received by everyone, but only by those who are prepared for Him. The Holy Spirit shows us how wrong our sins are. He helps us to accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour. He completely changes our lives. This is called being converted or born again.

We believe, first and foremost, that Jesus Christ is a soul-winner. That is what He came for, lived for, died for and rose again for. He came to restore the relationship and fellowship between God and man. As to His human nature, Jesus Christ was a descendant of David. As to His divine nature, He was shown with great power to be the Son of God by being raised from death on the third day. Now He sits at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2; Romans 1:2-4). He was at all points tempted just as we are, yet was without sin. Jesus Christ loves us, died for us, reigns in power for us and still prays for us.

God Does Nothing Without His Word
We believe that holy men of God were carried along by the Holy Spirit as they spoke the message that came from God. The Holy Bible is more than long-ago events and ancient wisdom. It is God's message of grace and truth to us today (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).

We believe that sin points one to eternal death and destruction but God's Word points one to life. If Christ Jesus is our Lord and Saviour, a new body, a new soul and a new spirit await us one day. God's Spirit joins Himself to our spirit to declare that we are God's children (Romans 8:16).

We believe that salvation is to be set free from sin and its penalties and is received by faith in the cleansing power of the Blood of Jesus Christ. Each man has to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour, otherwise Jesus' death will not save him.

We believe that God's Word refreshes our minds while God's Spirit renews our strength. To be born again, not only must we have God's Word but also His Spirit, mixed with repentance and faith in our hearts.

We believe that divine healing is the supernatural power of God bringing health to the human body. It is received by faith in the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ. All the punishment Jesus Christ received before and during His crucifixion was for our healing - spirit, soul and body. By His stripes, we are healed. Divine healing was included in the benefits that Jesus Christ bought for us at Calvary.

We believe in water baptism and baptism in the Holy Spirit. We also believe in speaking in tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance (Acts 2:4). All who enter into the number of the body of Christ do so because they are baptised in the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13; Romans 8:9). When you are baptised in the Holy Spirit, God's power will come upon you as it did on the first disciples on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4). When God's power comes upon you, the Holy Spirit will affect everything about you. The Holy Spirit produces rivers of life, joy, love, peace and power to flow out of your spirit for the needs of others (John 7:37-38).

We believe in the Lord's Supper as was celebrated by Jesus Christ and His disciples in Matthew 26:26-28,"While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying, 'Take and eat; this is My body.' Then He took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, 'Drink from it, all of you. This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.'" As the disciples of old were instructed to partake of the Lord's Supper by Jesus Christ, we also partake of the Lord's Supper (2 Peter 1:4), upon the instruction of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10; 11:26-31).

We believe that Jesus Christ will come again, just as He went away
(Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians. 4:16-17).

.................................................................................................................................................

THE BEGINNING OF THE FIRST CHURCH

ALL THE WAY LONG

The first church...

There is an unseen hand in the affairs of every man of faith. God is the unseen hand that brings everything to pass.
As a Christian, whatever situation you are in, do a proper reflection. I mean sit down and reflect on life itself and you will discover that nothing happens for nothing, nothing comes by chance.

The Synagogue, Church of All Nations did not just come by chance - it was as it should be by divine will. Right from the start, God Almighty has been the divine driver behind our fortunes and the inspiration behind the whole set up.
We want to take this opportunity to acknowledge how He has intervened in our affairs all the way long. If God had not overcome for us, there would be no need to tell this story...

EVERYTHING BIG STARTS LITTLE
God has set a time for everything: a time to be born, a time to grow, a time to face persecution, a time to overcome and a time to show the proceeds of victory.

If you look at life, you would see that everything big starts little. A mighty cathedral starts with one brick. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. You were once a tiny embryo in your mother's womb, but today, see how big you have become.

Luke 13:18 - Then Jesus asked, "What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air perched in its branches."

The first church...
A Christian home does not come by luck. It is not a thing of chance or accident. You don't just find yourself in it; it is something you have through conscious effort or genuine willingness. So also, The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations that you see today did not just happen, it was built.

Many years ago, a small gathering of eight members came together to hold their first meeting in a humble shelter in a squalid, swampy jungle, in the location of Agodo-Egbe in Lagos, Nigeria. For everything God created, He allotted a specific and definite purpose. The purpose and mission of the church was simple and clear - to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10).

As time went on, it became increasingly clear that T.B. Joshua was not just an ordinary pastor, preaching 'ordinary' words and doing 'ordinary things'. Right from the onset, he has believed that serving God is not doing what many do but doing what the best do.

"Everyone has a calling. If you follow the direction of your calling, you will surprise yourself, you will astonish yourself - you will make a difference in your world."

The second church...
Clear evidence of outstanding miraculous occurrences began to arise. The lame began to walk, hopeless cancer patients were lifted from despair, desperate situations were turned to scenes of life, joy and peace. On seeing the extraordinary power of God in the life of this man, one cannot but ask questions: 'Can this be true in our days?' 'Can a human being perform such feats?' 'Is the Bible still true for us today?'
Anointing does not work through plans, methods or machinery. It works through suitable men. T.B. Joshua is simply utilising the power that has been given to all believers (Luke 10:19). " Jesus is disappointed that men lack the necessary faith to release the power that has been given to them." God has no hands but our hands to do His work.

Right from day one, the focus in The SCOAN has never been on the healing but on the Healer, whose name is Jesus Christ. As T.B. Joshua always says: "I am not here to introduce you to healing, but to the Healer ." The only genuine reason for receiving is salvation (Matthew 6:33) .

He says: "I am not the healer. I know the Healer. His name is Jesus Christ. It is not my work but my faith in His finished works. It is God's strength that is made manifest in my weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:7-10).

CHURCH OF ALL NATIONS?

The third church...
God had planted a vision in the heart of T.B. Joshua. Some would think it strange for a church of just a small number in a humble area in Lagos, Nigeria to be prophetically named a church of all nations but for the vision in the life of T.B. Joshua. The name given to the church is testimony to the prophetic insight given to Prophet T.B. Joshua and his calm and determined focus on that vision.
"Your future must move into you before you can move into your future."

This dream was known to him alone. No one else believed his dream nor even understood it. His vision was his direction. He allowed that dream to be his best influence rather than the opinions, advice and criticisms of others around him.

"If your mind agrees in your relationship with God, what your circumstances look like, what you see, what people say or do concerning that relationship cannot affect it."

Prophet T.B. Joshua knew that the service of the Lord is a thing of the mind, and your mind will always ask you to do something uncommon, rare and different. For you to have what you have never had before, you must do what you have never done before (Matthew 14:28-31).

SYNAGOGUE?

Some might wonder, why 'Synagogue'? The Bible says Jesus entered the Synagogue and sent out all that were not of Him, all those things that He had not planted. As it was, so it is. As He worked in the Synagogue of old, Jesus is still working in the Synagogue today. The Son of God healed and still heals all kinds of sickness and disease. What is happening today is just an extension of what happened then.

MOVE ON AS JESUS DID

On the instruction from the Holy Spirit, The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations moved to a large expanse of land in Ikotun-Egbe, in the outskirts of Lagos. Thousands began flocking to the services as they heard about the miraculous events taking place there (Matthew 4:23-24).
If the road is smooth, the journey calm and everything is going well for you, be careful. The Bible says narrow and rough is the road that leads to life. That is, anything close to Jesus receives attack. If satan knows you are not bothering his kingdom, he would not bother to attack you. The occurrences in The SCOAN attracted the attention of satan and his agents. Agents of satan were sent to come and put out the light in the life of Prophet T.B. Joshua, but their missions failed. Satan is powerless in the face of God's armour and power. They came in mass seeking to destroy but were instead delivered by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is simply because Prophet T.B. Joshua recognized that the victory had already been won.

"Whatever I am today is a product of the conviction that victory through Christ Jesus is victory indeed. The rest is history."

Crowds fill The Synagogue...
Isaiah 2:3 "Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem."

As the awareness spread, people of every colour, culture and creed started coming to witness the power of God in the The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations. Countless testimonies continued flooding in as every manner of sickness and disease bowed and submitted to the indisputable authority in the name of Jesus Christ. There is no reason to doubt His sufficiency. His healing, blessing, deliverance are unlimited! (Hebrews 13:8).

INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS

It was then that another mighty work began in The SCOAN. God Almighty instructed Prophet T.B. Joshua to build a cathedral that would reflect His glory and majesty.

Just as David received instruction to build the temple and Moses received instruction to build the tabernacle, the same God, who changes not, was the inspiration behind the construction of The SCOAN you see today. When you follow Jesus in righteousness, the impossible will become possible for you.

There was only one architect involved in the planning - the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit talks, we must obey, because changes are beginning.

In a very short space of time, an area without walls and barely a roof was transformed into a mighty cathedral. Hard benches were replaced with comfortable chairs; poor lights were turned to intelligent lighting; fans were exchanged with refreshing air conditioning. The great changes that took place in such a limited time span has become a subject of debate. The will of God will never lead you to where the grace of God is not sufficient to cover you. Glory be to God!

Everyone has received something from God that is capable of being planted. Members willingly sacrificed their time, strength and money to build their church. Everyone played their own role and used the gifts God had given them to contribute to the success of the building.

Just one walk into the church helps to cultivate an atmosphere of faith and a consciousness of Christ's presence. On all the windows, the galleries and the floor, there are Bible passages and words of encouragement and inspiration to lift your faith. The ceiling also displays many pictures depicting the suffering of Christ and the apostles of old, creating opportunity for sober reflection and self-examination.

"God is in the House through His Word, by His Spirit."

THE CHURCH TODAY!

The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations
Although the physical structure of the church has changed, the vision remains the same. Millions continue to receive the knowledge of saving grace, and to see the undeniable evidence that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
God continues to use Prophet T.B. Joshua as an instrument of healing, prophecy, deliverance, blessing and salvation. Healings of HIV-AIDS, cancer, paralysis, and of many other sicknesses and diseases occur every week, proving that Jesus is who He says He is, He has what He says He has, and He can do what He says He can.

Every Sunday, our live services are broadcast to millions around the globe through Emmanuel TV, and the cathedral is always filled to capacity with worshippers from across Nigeria and the world.

'Church Of All Nations': what to some was mere wishful thinking is becoming a visible reality today. The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations is now spreading throughout the globe. Currently, we have branches in South Africa, the United Kingdom, Greece, Austria and Ghana. That name was not just given for nothing. God had a plan and purpose. The unseen hand is at work, and we know that this higher hand is leading us to something higher.

"If God gives you a vision and it is opposed by men, do not reduce it; stay in faith in Christ Jesus."

Where God guides, He provides. Where he provides, He protects. A million thanks are not enough for all He has done!

THE RACE CONTINUES

"The race is not for the beginner but for the finisher."

The journey continues. It is not about the messenger but the unchanging message. It's not about the miracles but the Miracle worker. It's not about the man, but the Maker. It's all about Jesus Christ. The eternal message of our Lord Jesus Christ will last forever, even in the face of life's uncertainties. This is what we are born for, what we are living for and what we are going to die for.

Wherever the road may lead us, the vision that gave birth to this ministry many years ago is the same vision that wakes us up in the morning, sends us to sleep at night and is preparing us for the journey tomorrow. And what is that vision? One way; one job. The way is Jesus Christ; the job is to talk about Him to others.

Life is a warfare. In a war, there are many battles to be won. Each time God sees you through a battle, it is right for you to say, "Thank You, Lord" and glorify Him. It is a way of encouraging Him to see you through future battles, because there are many battles ahead.

Deuteronomy 1:30-31 - "The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the desert. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place."

He has carried us all the way long. This story is not intended to show off, but as a way of glorifying God and saying, "Thank You, Jesus".

The best is yet to come...

T.B. JOSHUA - BIOGRAPHY

“God chooses grace rather than works (Ephesians 2:8-9).

This means that if the weak come to Him, He would help their weakness just as He would help the strong. God knows we are weak - that is why He chooses grace. If God had chosen works rather than grace, man would have the autonomy to choose whom to help with his works and how to do His works.

The battle would be for the strongest leaving no room for people like me (T.B. Joshua). The race would be for the swiftest leaving no room for people like me (T.B. Joshua).”

Isaiah 6:8 – “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

T.B. Joshua is just one of those who have submitted to the will of God. He acknowledges that if God had chosen works rather than grace, no one would merit His mercy.

In a sermon titled, “By His Grace”, he explained:“Wisdom in the practical sense of ability and skill cannot guarantee success in life. It is the goodness of our cause that interests God more than physical and mental disposition. This explains why the weak people like me who are without great strength, a smooth tongue, fast legs or high learning should ever remain grateful to God”.

"Right from the onset of his incredible journey, the hand of God has been clearly evident in the life of Prophet T.B. Joshua."
Right from the onset of his incredible journey, the hand of God has been clearly evident in the life of Prophet T.B. Joshua. He was born on June 12th, 1963 in the small village of Arigidi in Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. The pregnancy period of his mother was by no means ordinary, as the baby remained in her womb for 15 months before he was born. Significantly, almost a hundred years prior to his birth, it had been prophesied that a young man would emerge from the poor Oosin quarters and that God would use him mightily. Another remarkable event occurred when he was three days old, as a large boulder crashed through the roof of his house, missing the baby by mere inches. This incident led to his mother naming him, ‘Temitope’, meaning, ‘What You (God) have done for me is worthy of thanks’.

During his elementary education at St. Stephen’s Anglican primary school, Arigidi, he was the leader of the Student Christian fellowship. He was the smallest in the class but led the prayer during the school devotions and was known as ‘small pastor’. He was unable to complete his secondary education due to poverty.

Reflecting on his early life, he said: “I found myself in a family background that irritated me. My natural circumstance of birth was poverty. I come from a very humble background. Poverty loomed large in the family. The little education I had was through self-effort. I know many people with a similar circumstance of birth who did otherwise. They allowed their circumstance to influence their will. Their dreams crashed on the rocks of disappointment, failure and setback …In those early years of my life, we knew we would be blamed for what we gave our attention to.”

In an article written by T.B. Joshua himself, titled, ‘Everything Big Starts Little’, he explains more…

Very early in life, he knew how much he needed God, so he did not allow the situation around him to affect his relationship with God. As described in his own words, T.B. Joshua recounts how he discovered the direction of God’s calling for his life:

LIFE AFTER LIFE

“I was in a trance for three consecutive days, then I saw a hand that pointed a Bible to my heart and the Bible entered my heart and my former heart seemed to immerse with the Bible immediately. Then the awareness came and I saw the apostles and prophets of old with someone whose head I could not see because He was tall to the heaven and suspended, which I believe was our Lord Jesus Christ sitting in their midst. I also saw myself in their midst. After a while, I saw a hand of the same tall man, I could not behold His face, which was glittering with an unimaginable light, tall to the high heavens and suspended in the air. But other apostles I could see their faces, particularly Apostles Peter and Paul, Prophets Moses, Elijah and others. Their names were boldly written on their chests.

"I have been receiving in my vision, every year according to my faithfulness to God, a bigger cross that means to me more responsibilities."
I heard a voice saying, “I am your God; I am giving you a divine commission to go and carry out the work of the Heavenly Father”. At the same time, the same hand of the tall man gave me a small cross and a big Bible, bigger than the one that entered my heart with a promise that as I keep pressing in His time and name, I would be given a bigger cross but if I fail the opposite would occur. I also heard a voice of the same tall man, I could not see His head, saying, I am the Lord your God who was and who is – Jesus Christ, giving orders to all the apostles and prophets. The same voice said to me, “I would show you the wonderful ways I would reveal myself through you, in teaching, preaching, miracles, signs and wonders for the salvation of souls”.

Since then, I have been receiving in my vision, every year according to my faithfulness to God, a bigger cross that means to me more responsibilities.

The Bible that entered my heart symbolized Spirit and life (The Holy Spirit). God’s Word is Spirit and life. He does nothing without His Word. The book of Romans 8:16 says, God’s Spirit joins Himself to our spirit to declare that we are children of God. The Father gave the Spirit to make us like His Son.

Father, thank You for Your Spirit, fill us with Your love and power, change us into Christ’s own image, day by day and hour by hour.

God Himself performs the divine anointing on all who have the wonderful privilege of becoming His children (2 Corinthians 1:21-23 and Luke 24:48-49).

"God Himself performs the divine anointing on all who have the wonderful privilege of becoming His children."
Obedient to the divine call, T.B. Joshua, started a ministry with a mere eight members, prophetically naming it, ‘The Synagogue, Church of All Nations’ of which he is the General Overseer. Today, by the grace of God, as a man of faith, he is both a representative of God and of people. The ministry started very small, but has now grown far beyond the shores of Nigeria.

Evidently, T.B. Joshua has come a long way, full of troubles and hurdles, but all the way long, there has been an unseen hand of God intervening in his affairs. In every situation, he has remained focused on what God has to say.

For those whose lives are centred in Christ Jesus, the best is always yet to come…
